I am passionate about building businesses. I have spent most of my career investing in high growth businesses, as well as rolling up my sleeves and doing the business building myself. I have worked in venture capital, funds management, superannuation, renewables, mobile advertising technology (smart-phones) and new business development. I am recognised for my ability to quickly understand new markets, evaluate business opportunities, build a successful team and manage the establishment and growth of new business.
Prior to First Quay Capital, I was the Director of Strategy & Development at Crescent Wealth, a leading ethical funds management business. At Crescent Wealth I was instrumental in developing the firm’s products and execution of its growth strategy. During my time, the firm’s funds under management grew from $1m to around $200m, and continue to grow. More recently I led the firm’s growth into Malaysia. My involvement at Crescent Wealth is now as an Advisor, Non-Executive Director and a Member of the Investment Committee.
In my past life I spend 5 years at Lend Lease Ventures (a growth stage corporate venture capital fund of $100M). There I gained significant experience (5+ years) in investing in growth stage companies as well providing strategic assistance at Board and senior management levels. Prior to this I spent just over a year as an Analyst within a senior management team at Lend Lease and prior to that almost two years as an Analyst at Deloitte.
In 2014, I was recognised for my leadership skills by the Australian Financial Review and the University of Sydney with the 2014 Emerging Leader Award. In addition, I have written for the Australian Financial Review, the Financial Times (UK) and a contributor to Visions 2100, a book that tells of the power of Visions and invites the reader to create and share their own vision of a better world.
Holds an MBA from University of Sydney
Spending my early days at leading Australian wealth manager, Colonial First State, I eventually grew attracted to the prospect of building a highly institutionalized start up in the financial sector. Working with Omar, I spent four years working on the development of Crescent Wealth from the ground up.
To date, this funds management business has developed a suite of ethical wealth management products for the Australian domestic market as well as global institutional investors – across superannuation and managed funds. By 2016, the company has attracted significant mainstream media attention, has offices across Australia and Malaysia, and is now on its way to $200 Million in Funds Under Management.
Strategic Marketing remains an important passion of mine and I chose to pursue this by starting a Masters of Marketing degree at the University of New South Wales. As the start-up capital of Australian universities, learning at UNSW has given me another useful outlet to connect with some of the country’s best and brightest
Outside of this, I’ve remained active in promoting innovative and sustainable initiatives across sports (football) and aged care.
I hold a double degree in Applied Finance and Economics from Macquarie University.
